In a sea of new construction in Jersey City, one new project is standing out.  A plaza, aptly named “University Place,” which stems from a partnership between New Jersey City University, Jersey City, Claremont Companies, and others, will occupy 22 acres around the campus. For its role, Dresdner Robin, a land use consultancy headquartered in Jersey City, completed site and landscape design, permitting and construction administration services on the project.

The first building of University Place, RIVET, was developed by The Hampshire Companies and Claremont Companies, located at 23 University Blvd.  It houses 163 luxury-residential units ranging from 550 sq. ft. to 1,300 sq. ft., with 10,000 sq. ft. of ground-level retail space. The building features amenities including a cyber cafe with Wi-Fi access, 15,000-square-foot courtyard and yoga studio.  The building is a commuter’s dream as it’s only a 9-minute walk (0.4 miles) from the West Side Ave light rail station.

As you can see from the images, the attention to detail is quite impressive – from wood-look flooring to quartz countertops and in-home washers and dryers. Within the building there is a Five Guys, Carvel, a nail salon and a medical office. Other nearby West Side favorites include Baonanas and Jerkin Chicken.

NJCU President Sue Henderson previously said she “considers the public-private partnership a model for other New Jersey universities through the ability to use land assets and build educational spaces at a fraction of what they would normally cost.”
