Judith Clark, the infamous getaway driver of the deadly 1981 Brink’s Robbery has been granted parole.  Judith was convicted of being the getaway driver in a botched robbery of an armored car in Nanuet, New York (Rockland County).  The crime left three dead, Nyack Sgt. Edward O’Grady, Officer Waverly Brown and Peter Paige, a Brink’s security guard.

Ms. Clark was a member of the May 19th Communist Organization, an offshoot of the Weather Underground, a violent left-wing extremist group during the 60’s and 70’s.  Originally she was sentenced to 75 years to life, but became a model prisoner and expressed deep remorse for her old criminal ways. In 2016, Gov. Andrew Cuomo commuted her sentence to 35 years and made her eligible for parole.

Many liberals, like David Dinkins, have asked the judge for her to be paroled and to consider her good behavior.  On the other side are the victims families, law enforcement groups, conservative judges and republicans. These groups have been outspoken and feel she should never be released.

Mutulu Shakur (the stepfather of legendary rapper Tupac Shakur) was charged with second degree murder and was denied parole in 2018. He is scheduled to be released in 2024.

David Gilbert, who was also charged with second degree murder, will not be eligible for release until 2056. One side note, some speculate that the movie Dead Presidents was loosely based on these tragic events. New York and New Jersey seem divided 50/50 on this one.

Do you feel Judith Clark should have been released?
