The Brooklyn Nets take on the New York Knicks tonight at 7:30 PM. Allow NYNJ.COM to take you back to December 8th, 2018…The Nets and Knicks were both 8-18 in typical recent New York basketball style.. Just a month prior (November 13th) the Nets lost arguably their biggest star at the time, Caris LeVert, with a serious lower leg injury. It was not looking good for Brooklyn.
Let’s just say a lot has changed in the last month and half. The nets have gone on two large winning streaks. The first in December when the Nets won 7 in a row and finally popped up on ESPN’s radar, the second is currently at 5 games (7 home games). When Levert got injured, it was looking good for a bit, but the Nets have some incredible young talent that have stepped up. They have become nearly impossible to guard, with 6 players averaging double digits and two others very close to it.
The energy that D’Angelo “DLo” Russell has brought to this organization has not been seen in a minute. Throw in Spencer Dinwiddie and Jarrett “The Fro” Allen, who’s most memorable moment this season was blocking Lebron in the Nets win over the Lakers. The nets are currently 26-23 (6th in the East). Oh, did I mention Caris LeVert is rumored to be returning in early February.
As for the Knicks, they are hoping to score Zion in next years draft aka losing a lot of games this season at 10-36 (14th in the East).
In unrelated Nets/Knicks news this week. The Nets part owner (49%) and Alibaba co-founder, Joe Tsai purchased the WNBA New York Liberty. A deal that will liked end up with the franchise moving to Brooklyn or Long Island.
Back to the game tonight, game starts at 7:30 PM on YES and MSG. Nets vs Knicks is always entertaining, I will be watching.
