Sneakerheads at 208 Bowery street were a little too excited about an Adidas x Arizona Iced Tea pop-up shop.  All of the drama surrounded over a limed edition collaboration that include a total of four new 99 cent sneakers.  Two styles of the Adidas Continental 80 and two styles of the Yung-1.  The ultra-exclusive kicks were sold first come, first serve and could only be purchased with a $1 bill.  Every customer was to also receive a complementary can of iced tea.

The event was originally to be held today and tomorrow from 11 AM to 7 PM. By noon everything was shut down. In the chaos, there were reportedly two arrests for minor offenses.

Arizona has since tweeted:  “Thanks to our loyal fans that came out to support our partnership with Adidas. Due to overwhelming demand and safety concerns, the NYPD shutdown our pop-up. We sincerely apologize to all our fans that waited in line. We are actively working to remedy the situation”.

I think it’s safe to say that both companies underestimated the amount of people who love Adidas, Arizona iced tea and all things .99 cents.
