Sigri Indian BBQ is a Chipotle-style fast casual restaurant, where you build your own bowl or kati rolls.  Started by ultimate entrepreneur Jagat Parikh and joined by Chef Aarthi Sampath, who you may recognize as the winner of Chopped in 2016 and who recently beat Bobby Flay in March of 2018 (take that Bobby). She also contributed to the success of the iconic Michelin starred Indian Restaurant ‘Junoon’ across the Hudson in NYC.  Sigri has no shortage of customers by being the only authentic Indian cuisine in their Newark neighborhood, close walking distance to Rutgers (Newark), NJIT as well as a plethora of corporate headquarters nearby.

Opening in November of 2018, the chic instagramable décor and high quality food at affordable prices (average meal price $8.50) have made the restaurant an instant success.  Incorporating modern techniques with Indian cuisine is personally something I have never seen before and I’m sure will lead to other locations.

Their most popular dish is the Garlic Naan with Vindaloo sauce, Spicy Chicken, Cabbage & Carrot salad with Mango Cilantro Chutney and Sigri Rice.  If you’re in the area in the middle of the day, I strongly recommend the Sigri lunch bowl at only $6.99.  With seating for 70 people, you are sure to have a place to sit and enjoy their flavorful cuisine.
