I attend the Philadelphia Flower Show yearly and I am incredibly grateful that in 2020 it took place prior to the pandemic shut down in the United States. The show is sheer floral beauty and offers inspirational and uplifting content.
Held annually in the Winter season, it normally takes place indoors at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. This year’s dates are June 5th – 13th, 2021 and it has been transferred outdoors to Philly’s FDR Park. The first time in its almost 200 year history that the crafted blossoms and artistic floral displays are moving outside. Poetically fitting if you ask me, for a Horticultural event. Plus, we have all adapted to al fresco experiences and have gained a comfort level with them.
According to The Philadelphia Horticultural Society (PHS), the show will span 15 acres, with nearly 450,000 square feet of exhibits, activities, and open space. This is a 45% increase from previous Flower Shows held inside the Convention Center.
The curated theme changes yearly and incorporates global style, ingenuity, creativity, natural beauty, and Eco consciousness, along with gardening technology. In 2020 it was “Riviera Holiday”, a gorgeous experience filled with dreamy natural Mediterranean landscapes. The theme for 2021 is “Habitat: Nature’s Masterpiece exploring the beauty of life through nature’s kaleidoscopic lens.”
If you can attend opening weekend (June 5th – 6th), PHS has a special surprise in conjunction with The Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia. It was recently announced that renowned florist Jeff Leatham (known for large-scale, architectural floral installations) will create Jeff Leatham’s “Habitat.” He also curated the 2020 New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) Orchid Show: Jeff Leatham’s Kaleidoscope.
PHS Chief of Shows & Event, Sam Lemheney states “The 2021 Flower Show will inspire and bring joy to our visitors and provide gardeners with a wonderful highlight to the growing season.”

I am looking forward to attending this re-imagined event in a totally new atmosphere in the heart of Philadelphia. Check back in June after the show for my analysis, insights, and visual inspirations; both on NYNJ and @dressedtothej9s and enjoy the show!
