The Ultimate Disco Cruise gives one the thrills and excitement that has been missing since the days of the club scene – so much so that guests book for the next year before getting back to homeport. Dancing joy brought a welcome day of relaxation fun in the Bahamas but it was certainly worth getting back to the ship to join in the Guest Appreciation Party with First Ladies of Disco. Guests could not wait to see Martha Wash, Linda Clifford, and Norma Jean Wright – as these women know how to entertain.
Ultimate Disco Goes on With Much Excitement
Just before First ladies of Disco took the stage the crowd was given the sad news that Wash took a spill while rehearsing and it was necessary to assure that she was okay. We were told that it was not serious but that she was being cared for. The other ladies were in fine voice as the true professionals they are, and sang to the roaring crowd as all were sending healing thoughts to the Queen of Clubland.
About 20-minutes later Wash sat stage left ready to be the performer her fans adore. The show must go on in the name of Martha Wash, was announced by Wright. Finally, an hour in, after Clifford got all going with “If They Can See Me Now,” she announced that Wash recovered enough to make it onto the stage – with some assistance the songstress entered with cane in hand but rocking her voice, and the crowd, despite the momentary upset.
Wright and Clifford joined Martha on stage for an amazing rendition of “It’s Raining Men.” Wash spoke of appreciating that while many have passed, we are all still here and have a chance of getting it right before the women sang “Bad Girls” in memory of all who have gone too soon. The guests truly enjoyed the fun these true first ladies of disco hosted.
KC and the Sunshine Band Brings Added Thrills
Immediately after the First Ladies of Disco finished was a not to miss live interview with KC of KC and the Sunshine Band. How wonderful to get so up close and personal learning about the disco giant in his own words. As he spoke about when he wrote “Rock Your Baby” he knew it was George McCrae’s song, the audience received a bonus with McCrae sitting among them.
KC and the Sunshine Band then took to the Mainstage for an evening of performing. The perfect band to continue the disco dance fun as the Celebrity Infinity prepares to head back towards Miami. The music master and his band rocked the theater with vibrant excitement complete with his full band, amazing dancers, costume changes, and a cool light show. The artist spoke humbly of writing songs, like “Rock Your Baby,” that influenced “Dancing Queen” along with John Lennon stating that he was influenced to write “Whatever Gets You Through the Night” by KC.
While singing “Rock Your Baby” KC brought the amazing McCrae on stage to share in the magic of the song that is both their baby. The seasoned entertainer did not stop moving playing his hits along with other disco favorites. Of course, “That’s the Way” sang out to all rocking and singing “I like it” before the final crowd-pleaser “Get Down Tonight.”
Ultimate Disco Cruise Nightly Supreme Club Fun Continues
The night ended dancing in the magic of the Studio 55 club. Felipe Rose once again took to the stage to wow the fans aching to see the iconic disco great perform. Dressed in his Village People persona as the Native American that he truly is, Rose spoke heartfelt about how he is on to a new adventure as a solo act.
With France Joli and McCrae in the audience front and center, Rose gave a shout out to his “family” of fellow disco icons – noting their 40 years together in the business. The spectators cheered him on to his new adventure as a solo artist, ready to make long-term admirers happy while embracing a new generation of fans. “YMCA” became a group effort with the Ultimate Disco Cruise dancers and the crowd spelling out the song as dancing took over.
Disco Cruise Ends with an Ultimate Day of Love
The last day of the cruise was certainly melancholy knowing the fantasy vacation was soon to end. As it was Valentine’s Day this day also brought the theme of love to it.
Morning had a not-to-miss Q&A hosted by Joe Johnson with multiple entertainment giants. “The Birth of Disco Phenomenon” allowed fans to have a personal experience with such greats as Earl Young of the Trammps, Deney Terrio, DJ Felix Hernandez, Bob Pantano, and Felipe Rose. Included among the musical greats was a music icon in his own right, StarVista Live Executive Producer Alan Rubens.
